What certifications are legally required on most job sites?

There is no single federal list. OSHA 10 or 30-hour Outreach cards are required by law in several states, including Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Missouri, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, West Virginia, and Nevada, for public works projects above a state-specific dollar threshold, and most sites separately require equipment certifications like NCCCO crane credentials, state trade licenses, and employer-specified safety training such as fall protection or confined space entry, layered on top of whatever the project owner or general contractor requires by contract.

How do you track certifications for subcontracted crews?

Request certification documentation from subcontractors during onboarding rather than accepting verbal assurance, and store it in the same system used for direct employees so it appears in one compliance view. General contractors remain responsible for confirming subcontractor compliance on many projects, so verified documentation, not a subcontractor's word, is what actually protects the GC under an owner's or auditor's review.

Can certification alerts be set per project timeline?

Yes, in a properly configured system. Rather than checking only whether a certification is current today, alerts and pre-mobilization audits can be set to confirm a worker's credentials will remain valid through the expected duration of a specific project assignment, catching a mid-project expiration before the crew ever mobilizes to the site.

What happens if a worker's certification lapses mid-project?
